Debacles like the TU-144 only re-enforced that lesson, not that they still didn’t have to re-learn it periodically. It’s why they believed the USA would make SDI work. It’s why their networks of agents of influence opposed SDI.
Considering the current labor market presented to employers, I must argue that maybe a slow down is much needed to realign the mindset of many employees. A robust adaptation to automation and disruption via LLM implementation would be the preferred alternative, but I sense that the day of successful human employment is near its end.
