I agree with you James . The USā€™s ā€œsecret sauceā€ has historically been in its ability to take in immigrants from around the world and give them the freedom they need to prosper. Just look at how many companies were started by non-native-born Americansā€¦

The MAGA crowd pays lip service to ā€œmerit-basedā€ immigration but made no attempts to carry out any meaningful reforms in that direction in Trumpā€™s first term. On the contrary, they made it harder to get H1-B visas, and even suggested ending spousal immigration (why immigrate at all if your spouse cannot).

The US is shooting itself in the foot if it closes the door to foreign talent.

Jackson's statement that ā€˜the chief justice has made his ruling now let him enforce itā€™ was supposedly in response to protecting Indian rights under US treaty in Georgia. The "Trail of Tears" followed when their rights were ignored. Vance is a smart guy and a lawyer - choosing this example for a quote seems bad.

Unless he expects his audience to secretly or not-so-secretly like the Trail of Tears.

I am skeptical of Vance and his foray in politicizing good ideas like renewable energy. I am skeptical he really represents the tech sector as much as he represents the VC sector.

Great piece. Iā€™d love to hear you talk with Oren Cass about UpWing and DownWing in regards to the New Right philosophy. I think thereā€™s a lot of overlap there.

The term "globalization" always bugs me. It can mean (at least) two very different things. 1. Economic integration and free trade. 2. Politicians and bureaucrats in International or global institutions taking away the choices of people in their own country. In my view, 1 is good and 2 is bad. I was all for Brexit because it was an improvement on 2. Alas, the politicians completely failed to seize the opportunity to deregulation and expand free trade.

James, I enjoy your points and your links more than those from the Progress Network who apparently unreflectively assume "progressive" views.
