🤖 Yes, conservatives can support advanced AI
I wrote a whole book about this, actually
My fellow pro-growth/progress/abundance Up Wingers in America and around the world:
Given that I wrote a book titled The Conservative Futurist: How to Create the Sci-Fi World We Were Promised, it should come as no surprise that I take strong issue with any assertion that self-described conservatives should oppose current and future advances in artificial intelligence. I couldn’t disagree more.
The aforementioned claim was made in “The AI Apocalypse Is Already Here,” a lengthy essay published last month in Compact by Gregory Conti, an associate professor of politics at Princeton University and an editor at large at the magazine. From what I can gather, Compact is a publication devoted to postliberal thought of the left and right, described by Reason magazine writer Stephanie Slade in a 2022 piece as “a high-profile effort to introduce a united illiberal front, one that couples support for state enforcement of traditional social mores with a healthy appetite for redistribution and central planning of the economy.”
