✨☠ We can do better than merely surviving AI 'extinction'
There's plenty of reason to be positive about what comes next. Really!
My fellow pro-growth/progress/abundance Up Wingers,
"More than at any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads,” wrote Woody Allen in a mock commencement speech, “My Speech to Graduates,” back in 1979. “One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.”
That bit of nihilistic wit came to mind when reading “An Age of Extinction Is Coming. Here’s How to Survive,” a thoughtful new piece from New York Times columnist Ross Douthat. His thesis: The 21st Century Technology Revolution — driven first by the internet + smartphone combo and now also artificial intelligence — is bringing about not just an alteration, but a brutal undermining and even winnowing of modern human constructs: nations, languages, religions, politics, art, and the three Rs. Oh, one other R: reproduction of the species.
