Does my baseline pass the test?
My fellow pro-growth/progress/abundance Up Wingers,
No surprise: If I have an analytical bias, itβs probably one of overly confident optimism β what Peter Thiel would call βdefinite optimismβ β that we can make the world a more livable and humane place, especially through better tech tools. We can invent the future we want, or at least something close to it. (The universe rewards action and all that.)
Granted, progress isn't always purely positive. Most advances come with some downsides, even when they create a net benefit overall. And itβs important to remember that truth β although I think our societal bias, broadly, is to obsess about downsides to our detriment.
Maybe I should call this techno-optimism the Giant, Bioengineered Crab Bias. Itβs inspired by one of my favorite videos from The Onion, βExperts Agree Giant, Bioengineered Crabs Pose No Threat.β
