My fellow pro-growth/progress/abundance Up Wingers,

No surprise: If I have an analytical bias, it’s probably one of overly confident optimism β€” what Peter Thiel would call β€œdefinite optimism” β€” that we can make the world a more livable and humane place, especially through better tech tools. We can invent the future we want, or at least something close to it. (The universe rewards action and all that.)

Granted, progress isn't always purely positive. Most advances come with some downsides, even when they create a net benefit overall. And it’s important to remember that truth β€” although I think our societal bias, broadly, is to obsess about downsides to our detriment.

Maybe I should call this techno-optimism the Giant, Bioengineered Crab Bias. It’s inspired by one of my favorite videos from The Onion, β€œExperts Agree Giant, Bioengineered Crabs Pose No Threat.”
