✨ GPT-5 is a step forward, not a leap — and that’s OK

Progress is progress, especially if the pace would have been unimaginable just a few years ago

This is good news, full stop: OpenAI’s newest model, GPT-5, is smoother, smarter, and more polished than its predecessors. That’s the strong consensus, as I read things.

But it isn’t a digital revolution, also the strong consensus. It won’t rescue policymakers from hard fiscal decisions, nor will it instantly reorder the global economy.

A Mars colony or room-temp superconductor probably aren’t appreciably closer today than yesterday.
