😀 Good news: Washington has failed to undermine the AI Revolution. So far.
My optimism that Washington won’t screw up the emerging AI Revolution is based less on a reading of current politics than on a reading of recent history. While there’s no doubt that plenty of policymakers think sweeping federal action is warranted, that doesn’t necessarily mean anything of substance will happen.
After all, there’s nothing new about activists and politicians complaining about Big Tech, including digital-platform issues such as content moderation and privacy, as well as supposed monopolistic practices. More up their alley: Efforts back in 2021 to pass several pieces of legislation aimed at regulating Big Tech. These bills would have barred online retailers from steering customers to their own products, limited data monetization, prevented buying up nascent competitors, and potentially allowed breaking up the companies. But these bills never made it to President Biden’s desk
And while some in Congress don’t want a repeat of that failure, I kind of do. And so far, so good.
